CERTALDO - TUSCANY
Marieke and Joost wanted an intimate wedding in the Tuscan hills with their close loved ones, away from the tourist trail.
The Set in Colle Val d'Elsa, in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, near to the Chianti region, is an incredible ancient Benedictine abbey, converted to a "modern hotel", in fact this place is rather special, because legend has it, Michelangelo spent time here drawing his ideas for the Sistine Chapel.
The perfect setting for bride to be Marieke to get ready with talented make up artist Ebru and her mum over a glass of local Prosecco. Once a slightly nervous, but beautiful looking Marieke was ready, her partner Joost stood patiently waiting to see her in her wedding dress for the first time, in view of their closest family members. As you can see from the pictures, a wonderful and emotional moment no doubt enhanced by the enchanting Tuscan surroundings. This was followed by hugs, kisses and an intimate family meal before the day really started.
Roll on late afternoon and we were ready to take to the medieval hilltop town of Certaldo Alto to the Palazzo Pretorio , the highest building in Certaldo, dating back over 600 years, with Marieke and Joost arriving in a classic open topped VW Beetle.
A very special and intimate ceremony followed in front of their closet friends and family, with a live operatic serenade by the amazing Francesco Formicola. As far as wedding locations go, Palazzo Pretorio must be one of the most beautiful in Tuscany.
As the happy couple left the Palazzo, their guests lined the route with balloons to release followed by love & laughter and drinks and canapés in the local bar across the street. A short drive to the farmhouse in Colle di Val d'Elsa to enjoy a typical Tuscan wedding reception under the stars was the perfect end to a fairytale wedding.
As a photographer, shooting a wedding in Tuscany always makes me smile, its the history, the wine, the colours and of course the magic light. To be entrusted to tell the story of a couples special day is an absolute privilege.
Marieke and Joost from Amsterdam, it was an honour to meet you guys and your lovely guests, you are so warm, friendly and your zest for love and life is infectious!
